Welcome, so glad you are here
Amanda Tonner-Cormier
Registered Psychotherapist
Approved for Victim Services Insurance
My name is Amanda and I am a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO). I’ve been counselling since 2016, initially in a non-profit substance use treatment facility which I eventually directed. I transitioned to private practice in 2022 which has allowed me to connect with people of such diverse challenges and experiences. I have experience helping adolescents and adults with a variety of challenges, including addiction, emotional regulation, anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, grief, and criminalization. My approach changes based on the needs of my client but my desire to make you feel safe is constant. I bring compassion, curiosity, non-judgment and sometimes humour in hopes of fostering your self-awareness and full potential.
My Approach
My hope is to help my clients feel safe and accepted as they work toward a calmer mind. I firmly believe that a strong therapeutic relationship is the springboard to healing, improved well-being, and achieving one’s innate potential. I would be happy to help you on your journey.

Children's Therapy
I am a Registered Psychotherapist with experience helping children address behavioural issues, ADHD, self-harm, school attendance, shyness, aggression and more. I am also an advocate of proactive mental health maintenance and deeply enjoy teaching children about their emotions. My practice is informed by the latest literature in children’s mental health along with ongoing professional development on my part. My relaxed approach to children’s therapy allows my clients to confidently express themselves, explore their feelings and learn coping strategies they can take with them for years to come. I also include parents in the therapeutic process where appropriate in order to foster consistency at home yet respect the child’s autonomy where possible. I have availability after school and on Saturdays!
Get to Know Amanda
What made you decide to pursue a career as a therapist?
I’ve always been intrigued by the factors beneath people’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours. As a therapist it’s such a privilege to help people get to know themselves in a way that is so unique to the therapeutic relationship.
What do you enjoy most about what you do?
The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing your progress first-hand! I love those moments in session where I see my clients using the skills learned in therapy without my guidance. I also love learning every single day. When you work with humans, the learning never stops.
What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?
Not everyone necessarily suffers from “mental illness” but everyone has a mental health. As such, we all should be maintaining our mental health just like we would our physical health. Therapy is a great way to take a step back, hear ourselves think and let ourselves feel.
What will it be like for clients to work with you as their therapist?
I think working with me will feel like working with a teammate. I’ll cheer you on when things are good but also challenge you to get outside your comfort zone. Talking through the hard stuff can be immensely difficult. I like to think of these hard conversations as “growing pains” and I will cheer you on during those moments as well.
