Hi! My name is Nicole Prisciak, it’s so great to meet you. I am a registered Social Worker and have over seven years of experience in the mental health field. I specialize in working with DBT and CBT techniques to address issues such as anxiety, depression, emotion regulation, anger, shame and more.

My Approach

I believe that therapy is not here to “fix” you but to instead figure out what it is inside you that makes you the wonderful resilient person you are and then use these skills to help get through the hard stuff.

Mental Wellness At Any Age

Children's Therapy

When working with kids I always make sure to meet them where they’re at and meet their questions with curiosity. A lot of the time our children know that something is wrong but don’t have the words or experience to explain it or to ask for help. By offering a slower paced form of talk therapy we can get to the root of what’s bothering our kiddos. During sessions with children we will often colour, play games, and talk about what seems to be inconsequential for some but it allows them to bloom in a safe space and allows for them to feel free to express themselves and how they feel. The most important thing for me when working with children is that they feel safe and heard and that they know they have someone on their side and who will be advocating for them and who will help them to share what’s been on their mind without it getting lost in the shuffle. It will often take a few sessions for kiddos to feel comfortable sharing what’s really going on and I approach all sessions with patience and the understanding that I have to work a little harder to become their safe space but I feel honoured that I can offer them that.

Get to Know Nicole

What made you decide to pursue a career as a therapist?

Throughout my life I noticed that there was a lack of support for people who were struggling. I saw this for myself but also with members of my family. We have all struggled at different times in life and have reached out only to be met with long wait lists, ignorance or a lack of available support in our areas. I went into therapy hoping that I could help with even one of these areas. I hope that being in this field means that even one less person is turned away when they access the courage to ask for help.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

The thing I enjoy the most about what I do is getting to meet people from all walks of life. Everyone has a unique story and journey and being able to give someone the space to tell that story free of judgement is an amazing feeling.

What do you think are the biggest misconceptions about mental health?

The biggest misconception about mental health is that is means something is wrong with you. This could not be further from the truth. Everyone struggles with their mental health at some point in their life whether they realize it or not. It does not mean you are broken or unredeemable, its completely normal. Also, it is not shameful to ask for help. Everyone needs help at different points in their life and it takes a lot of courage to ask for help.

What will it be like for clients to work with you as their therapist?

My hope for all clients that I work with is that they leave each session feeling confident in themselves. Whether it is confident in making a choice they have been debating for a while, confidence in themselves as a person or confidence that they have made the right decision to come to therapy. I hope that I can provide a safe space for anyone within my care and allow you to let go of the things that weigh you down. I take you as you are and accept you for who you are as a person and I hope all my clients leave sessions knowing that.
